The transitional relationship between Florida and NewYork is ever-changing but seemingly constant. Whether exchanging residents seasonally or generationally, each locale provides distinctly different energies that feed off one another. The form of ‘Cadence’ slowly fades and blends from an angular built formation to a natural wave and encourages the user to interact and flip the piece. The form’s “built environment” hosts a darker, cozier experience of concrete and citrus notes via incense, while the opposing “natural environmental” reveals a candle presenting a warmer, brighter version of the same.

Rachel’s move to Florida, like many residents who transition between either Florida or New York, was a hopeful jump into the unknown. For this reason, it was fitting for her to choose this piece to be her first foray into throwing stoneware. While she has designed many ceramics for her studio YIELD, she has previously only slipcast and overseen production. This piece is her first handthrown piece paired with her own candle/incense blend.
